Mortal battle
Together with all the peoples of the USSR, mountain Jews courageously fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. Many of them by their dedication inscribed their name in the history of the Great Victory. Mountain Jewish Women fought equally with men, and also heroically worked in the rear. In February 2014, President of the International Charitable Fund STMEGI German Rashbilovich Zakharyaev appealed to the leading rabbis of Israel, Russia and European countries with a proposal to recognize 26 iyar (May 9 according to the Jewish calendar) as a holy day for Jews and to celebrate it widely. The idea received wide support and already in May of that year, the holiday began to be celebrated in Jewish communities around the world as "Day of Salvation and Liberation."
